Who is allowed to design and install a battery storage system?

To ensure your battery system is safe, compliant, and eligible for connection, it must be designed and installed by individuals with the correct accreditations.

The person installing the battery system must be accredited with one of the following:

  • Grid connect installation accreditation with battery endorsement
  • Grid connect installation accreditation plus stand alone installation accreditation

In addition, the installer must hold the appropriate qualifications for the specific battery technology being used for example, lithium ion, flow batteries, or others.

The person designing the system must also hold the following:

  • Accreditation for the design of battery storage systems

The designer and the installer can be different people, but the designer must formally sign off on the system documentation and design drawings.

Accredited designer:

A professional accredited by the Clean Energy Council to design grid connected or stand alone battery storage systems, holding all required qualifications for the type of system and battery used.

Accredited installer:

A professional accredited by the Clean Energy Council to install grid connected or stand alone battery storage systems, and who holds all relevant technical qualifications for the specific system components.
